Women on the Way started as an informal group of refugee and migrant girls and women who resided in Serbia during 2020. The group was led by Farimah Shahgholian and formed as an Advocacy group within the support program for migrant women led by Citizens’ Association Atina. The group encouraged refugee women to unite and involve the communities they belong to in joint activities.
Group’s goal was to inspire others with their actions and ideas, and have them join in a broader movement to fight for a just society. Through the project’s activities, many migrant women and girls had an opportunity to show their creativity and skills, become empowered on their path toward full independence, and present the cultures of the Middle East and Africa to local communities. The group organized a sales event in Belgrade where the local community had the opportunity to buy clothes painted by the women refugees.
The project was supported by Trag Foundation, Balkan Trust for Democracy, The Rockefeller Brothers Fund and Coca Cola Hellenic.
